Our vets and nurses

Dr Hamish Bathgate BVSc GCM(VP)

Since graduating from Sydney University in 1992, Hamish has gained extensive experience with small and large animals in the United Kingdom and in rural NSW. He has been a senior vet in the St George area since 1997 and the principal at Blakehurst Veterinary Hospital since 2006.

Hamish's special interests include small animal medicine, soft tissue surgery, preventative care and chemotherapy.

He is also an AQIS (Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) accredited veterinarian.

Although he says he wouldn't have it any other way, Hamish is well and truly outnumbered at home with his wife, three daughters, a Staffy named Stella, a big-boned cat named Henrietta and two cheeky chooks - Maid Marion and Marigold.

  Kym Davis

Kym has almost 15 years experience as a qualified vet nurse and has been at Blakehurst for three years.  Kym is our nurse during the day and runs our puppy classes at night.

Kym's professional and friendly manner is well known to our clients and her devotion to the wellbeing of animals has seen her rescue many a furry friend in need.

Her dog Sunnie, two cats Mia and Kirra, a lorikeet named Buddy and a duck all hit the jackpot when Kym opened her heart and her home to them.

Kym is pictured with Louis, our resident cat.

  Deirdre Royer

With 18 years veterinary nursing experience up her sleeve, animal health profesionals don't come more dedicated than Deirdre Royer.

Born and bred in the St George region, Deirdre is the proud mum of three rescued stray cats and says she would love to welcome a few dogs into her home if only she had the room.

Deirdre certainly has a natural way with animals, a talent her family recognised from an early age. Since then, Deirdre has devoted her life to the health and wellbeing of her animal friends both at work and in her leisure time.

Deirdre is pictured with Josh, our other resident cat.

Chris Wain

Chris lives on-site taking special care of our cat boarding guests and closely monitoring our hospital patients after-hours. Chris is in his third year of veterinary medicine at Sydney University and has worked alongside Hamish for five years.

Chris is quite the horseman and when he’s not working or studying, he takes his best Kelpie friend Gyp to visit their horse in the Shire.

With a passion for animals and a commitment to excellence, Chris will be a wonderful vet one day. In the meantime, we’re fortunate to have him caring for our furry clients after-hours.
